Having stood in the open air...

Having stood in the open air...

Having stood in the open air
on a wide windy beach
scattered with lake stones
and bleached wood;
in an unfamiliar city—
the newness and possibility
putting me in a daze;
in a quiet yard that
I thought would be mine much longer;
along a clear river with leaves
from past seasons floating at the bank;
on a sloping sidewalk that I have walked
countless times now—
in blackness,
in morning,
in the blue hour;
under the new moon at sunrise
against an ether sky
or full in the middle of the night;
in my town, on an evening street
hazy with the onset of June,
I gave away my secrets.
